Anthropic is already profitable, with a 19% margin in Q2 and $3.9 billion of operating cash flow in H1 2026.1
Enterprise adoption is deepening, while revenue generated per dollar of compute has improved more than 5x in less than two years.1
With more than $130 billion in cash after raising an estimated $140 billion, Anthropic has built its business with impressively low cumulative net cash burn.1
A potential record-setting IPO is coming into focus.
Anthropic dropped its hotly anticipated S-1 on Monday, giving investors a closer look at the business behind Claude. Our recent research explored its enterprise leadership, the $2 trillion valuation debate, and ways to invest before an IPO. The filing adds evidence of improving economics, alongside the investment required to sustain that growth.
Enterprise Is Paying Off
The clearest takeaway is profitability: Anthropic delivered a 19% adjusted operating margin in Q2 and generated $3.9 billion of operating cash flow in the first half of 2026, with $3.4 billion of free cash flow after roughly $400 million in capital expenditures.1 The customer base is broadening, too. The S-1 shows more than 1,900 customers spend over $1 million annually, including roughly 250 spending over $10 million, while the share of revenue from its five largest customers is declining. That supports the enterprise thesis we have emphasized, with Claude becoming embedded in business workflows, where customers can measure its value through time saved and greater output.
Anthropic Is Getting More Efficient
Anthropic is also using Claude to build Claude. The model wrote 90% of September’s code contributions, while daily code contributed per engineer rose 45x from FY 2024 to Q3 2026.1 Its infrastructure economics are improving alongside those productivity gains: Revenue per dollar of compute rose from $0.40 in Q1 2025 to $2.08 in Q2 2026—a 5.2x improvement.1 That is encouraging given the scale of its future compute commitments.

Deep Pockets
Anthropic’s cash balance may be the S-1’s most striking statistic: Nearly $132 billion in cash and short-term investments against $141 billion raised as of Jun 30. The roughly $9 billion gap suggests it has reached this scale while consuming relatively little of the capital raised (before factoring in future compute commitments).1 This leaves Anthropic well-funded for its next phase of growth.
What Risks Should Investors Consider?
Rumored valuations would put Anthropic in rarefied air, reached by only a handful of companies in history, reflecting extraordinary influence on the global economy for a business so young. For investors, the question is how it has earned that stature—and what it will take to sustain it.
For Anthropic, maintaining trust is essential. A model acting unpredictably could create liability, regulatory scrutiny and reputational damage, even without a catastrophic event.1 Its roughly $800 billion of potential compute and infrastructure spending must also translate into durable earnings. Some commitments offer cancellation flexibility, but substantial obligations remain if demand disappoints.3
Maintaining its lead also requires continual reinvestment: Models released in the previous six months generated over 80% of Q3 revenue.1
A November IPO Coming Into Focus
Kalshi prices imply a 93% chance of an IPO before Dec 1, versus 14% before Nov 16, putting roughly 79% probability on Nov 16 to Nov 30.2 With weekends and the Thanksgiving holiday leaving fewer practical dates, the week of Nov 16 looks like a natural target, followed by Nov 23-24 and Nov 30.
